A mother and her young daughter allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Pania village under Shreenagar upazila in the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Monimala, 40, and her daughter Shanta, 20.
Officer-in-charge of Shreenagar Police Station Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the incident and said Shanta has been in love with her father’s cousin for a long time.
The mother took poison over a feud with her daughter in the issue around 09:00am.
The mother was admitted to Dhaka Mitford Hospital where she died around 12:00pm.
Shanta also took poison to commit suicide when she heard her mother‘s death news.
She was rushed to Shreenagar Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Dhaka Mitford Hospital where she died around 3pm.
