ইসরায়েলি ইহুদি তরুণী ও ফিলিস্তিনি মুসলিম তরুণের প্রেমকাহিনি নিয়ে লেখা একটি উপন্যাস ইসরায়েলের সর্বাধিক বিক্রয় তালিকার ১ নম্বরে উঠে এসেছে। দেশটির শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় উপন্যাসটিকে বিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যক্রমে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করতে রাজি না হওয়ার পর ব্যাপক আলোচনা-সমালোচনার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে বইটির বিক্রি হঠাৎ করেই বেড়ে গেছে বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে। খবর বিবিসির।
ইসরায়েলের নারী লেখক দরিত রাবিনিয়ানের লেখা উপন্যাসটির নাম বর্ডারলাইফ। দেশটির কর্মকর্তাদের শঙ্কা, ২০০৪ সালে প্রকাশিত উপন্যাসটি ইহুদি ও আরবদের সুসম্পর্ককে উৎসাহিত করতে পারে। উপন্যাসের কাহিনিতে দেখা যায়, নিউইয়র্কে এক ইহুদি তরুণী ও ফিলিস্তিনি মুসলিম তরুণের পরিচয় হয়। তাঁদের মধ্যে প্রেমের সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে। কিন্তু তরুণীটি ইসরায়েলে এবং তরুণটি পশ্চিম তীরে ফিরে আসার পর রাজনৈতিক ও সামাজিক বাস্তবতার কারণে তাঁদের সম্পর্ক ভেঙে যায়। কর্মকর্তারা বইটিকে পাঠ্যক্রমে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করতে রাজি না হওয়ার পর এক সপ্তাহেই ইসরায়েলে বইটির পাঁচ হাজার কপি বিক্রি হয়। ইসরায়েলের মতো ছোট বাজারে এই সংখ্যাকে বেশ বড় বলে মনে করা হয়।
লেখক রাবিনিয়ান এএফপিকে বলেন, লোকজনের দল বেঁধে তাঁর বই কিনতে যাওয়াকে তিনি ইসরায়েলের নীতির বিরুদ্ধে পাঠকদের একধরনের প্রতিবাদ বলে মনে করছেন। তিনি বলেন, এর মাধ্যমে ইসরায়েলের মানুষ প্রমাণ করেছে, তারা উদারনীতি ও মতপ্রকাশের স্বাধীনতার পক্ষে।
ইসরায়েলের পার্লামেন্টে এক বিতর্কে বইটি সম্পর্কে বলা হয়েছে, ইহুদি ও অ-ইহুদির মধ্যে ঘনিষ্ঠ সম্পর্ক পরিচয়ের স্বাতন্ত্র্যকে হুমকির মুখে ফেলবে। সমালোচনা জোরদার হওয়ার পর ইসরায়েলের শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় বলেছে, বইটি শিক্ষাক্রমে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা না হলেও এটি পড়তে কারও বাধা নেই। শিক্ষার্থীরা চাইলেই বইটি পড়তে পারবে।

**Dorit Rabinyan
Dorit Rabinyan was born in Kfar Saba, Israel, in 1972 to a Persian-Jewish family and now lives in Tel Aviv. She published her first novel at the age of 22. In addition to her novels, Rabinyan has written a screenplay for commercial television, Shuli`s Fiance, and a children's book. She now hosts a weekly TV culture program. Rabinyan has been awarded the Wiener Prize (1996), the Jewish Wingate Quarterly Award (1999), the Best Drama of the Year Award (1997) from the Israel Film Academy, the Prime Minister's Prize (2001), the Literary ACUM Award (2008) and the Bernstein Prize (2015).
