There is a say “Grow as much as your pedestal props you, if you grow beyond this limit, then whirlwind will break down your crown”. This saying became practical in July 2008, when bubble crunching happened because of unsustainable growth was occurring since 2002 to 2007 in US economy. Definitely, there is fall after every boom.

If you detract from your purpose, then result come with twist to you. Financial market was formed to serve human being to form business that was diverted from serving to unprecedented profit making. This switching bestowed marginal sufferings upon world people. Do you imagine about what I am saying; global recession? Yes, I am saying about worst global recession in world history. Greedy profit motive were liable for this recession. Investor thought that it is safer to invest in real estate as the price of the land is always in increasing trend. With this believe, financial marketer designed mortgage as complex financial tool and lend loan without judgmental calculation of risk factors of those mortgage as real estate business was in booming for more than five years. For this reason, financial institutions had no headache of lend worthiness of mortgage. As a result world experienced devastating financial collapse as Nobel, laureate Paul Crugman predicted. This collapse brought multiplier effect on global people through financial crisis, food crisis, energy crisis and environmental crisis. Government considered this crisis as financial crisis only neglecting the other three crises, which were evolved from the first one. Bailout package was introduced to protect Giant Corporation neglecting the other three billion bottom line people who are the worse sufferer for misdeed of giant corporations. If crisis were considered comprehensively, the result would be different. So now, let us see why three billion bottom line people who are the sufferers and remain poor for a long time.

1. Structure of Capitalism: Capitalism is a half build structure where self-interest exist but Adam smith said about self-less interest of human being in his Theory OF Moral Sentiment. According to Adam Smith “People born in the world with moral sense just like that they have inborn ideas of beauty and harmony”. Human conscience tells them what is right and what is wrong. If capitalism is reformed with this theory, thing will change.

2. Change in consumption pattern: Change in the consumption pattern of the rich people is an influential cause for food crisis. People become meat eater day by day by increased in per capita consumption of meat by 40 kilograms since 1958. This cause a huge demand on meat production results additional corn production to feed cattle. It is interesting to know that human food become the animal food. As a result food price go higher for low supply and food become unreachable for the poor people .Meat eater people emits mithen causes also environmental crisis.


3. Fuel price: Fuel Price push prices of all kinds of stuffs. In USA, government announced subsidy in producing ethanol rather than production of food items. This made happen decreased food production in contrary to no significant change in fuel price thus poor people are deprived.

4. Globalization: Globalization and free trade economy also contribute to hunger and poverty. Globalization is like a ship that carries the all people but in different decks. It is just like a highway, where there are many lanes, trucks, smashed away rickshaws. However, it should not let be happen. If we employ traffic and impose rules and regulations, any injustice will not happen.


5. Businessperson greedy profit motive: Greedy profit motive of the businessperson bring unproductive activities causes higher price of food grain because of short of production cause demand-pull inflation As example, booming of real estate business in USA and now in Bangladesh. Money has no value of its own; purchasing power determines the money value. People earn money by real estate business but there are no product adds to the economy. Therefore, demand rises but not product. If it is continuously happening in Bangladesh, this sector will collapse one day thus economy will get serious negative impact losing investment of investor, that cerates bankruptcy of financial institution enhanced unemployment problem. If people invest on productive sector like agriculture, manufacturing industry, economy become solvent with affluent production.


Though capitalism and globalization create above problems, it creates mega opportunity also. We have opportunity to work on food crisis, energy crisis, and environmental crisis and so on.

Drawbacks of capitalism can be minimized by second type of business; Social Business that is introduced by Nobel laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus based on the Theory of Moral Sentiment. Social business means business toward self-less interest, toward social objectives (Type 1, where investor will get back their investment, no dividend, profit will be recycled as further investment) owned by the poor people ( Type 2, Poor people will get dividend as they are the owner of the business). There are many sources for social business like CSR fund of corporations, donations and aid from donors, social stock market, social business fund made by government etc.

If we implement social business in country like Bangladesh, we need not to receive donation further. As example, we receive billions of dollars from USA as donation to make a bridge. If we make a bridge company, we can make bridge on and on by recycling investment. There will be many employment opportunities as well as we can remove poverty.

Nevertheless, I disagree with Dr. Mohammad Yunus in one extent, the theory of social business should be based on belief on Supreme Being (Almighty) rather theory of moral sentiment. Because by born, people are not moral, they learn from environment and society. When greed on money grabs humanity, conscience command for right thing but at that time people cannot aloof from money if they have no responsibility to answer about his/her activities to any supreme being. So if social business can be connected with believe on supreme power, and then obviously people will become moral and establish social business.

Environmental crisis is a major concern of our country because only 20 percent of our land is five meter above the sea level. Our natural resources are decreasing day by day. To improve this situation, we should practice sustainable lifestyle by aware use of our energy and resources.

Youth have the ability, power, energy confidence to do more. Youth created the world history and only youth can bring something new to change the world. In Bangladesh, we lack leader. We need be equipped with leadership quality by involving social activities by diagnosis problem and solving this. We need institutional leader and homegrown leader. Bangladesh youth leadership Center (BYLC) has been working on building homegrown leader in Bangladesh for 4 years. You can also work for poor as well as society by your own initiative. We should also work for environment by making people aware, work on alternative power energy on project basis. Brave Student Organization (BSO) has started working the different problems of society. I think if we can work together, we can build our nation as problem less, poverty less, a heavenly country. So youth, let us work on it put poverty in museum.
